Plant Sale This Week!

A message from Deborah Hainsworth.

I have a few plants; I am not pricing them but asking for a donation which will go to the NSPCC Childline Call Centre in Leeds. Tea, coffee or a cold drink and a home-made biscuit will also be available.

Because of the present situation please will you let me know in advance if you would like to come. The plants will be available from 10.00 to 12.30 then from 2.00 to 4.30. If you just want to come and have a cup of tea etc that is fine, but again I need to know.

Phone no: 2611769. Address: Mount House, Village Road, Eccup. If you are coming from Church Lane at Five Lane Ends go straight across onto Eccup lane, after a very sharp bend the road drops down as you are coming up on the right is Village Road. We are the first house on the right, our entrance is just past the red Post Office box

I am starting on Thursday 28th for a week, but on Sunday it will just be from 2.00 to 4.30.

I look forward to hearing from you.

A message from Alison 20/05/20

Dear Friends

I do hope you and yours are safe and well. I know from telephone conversations that many of us are beginning to feel weary, and especially long for proper social contact. However I am also heartened by the way so many of you are ready to count your blessings and think of those in worse situations.

I fear that distancing will be needed for some time yet. Thank you for all you are doing to support one another and also for your generous support for me. One lovely thing to come out of this time has been the way people have been willing to step out of their comfort zone. It has been wonderful to see people leading part or all of a service online – and doing it so well.

I will be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to record themselves reading the lesson, leading the prayers, or leading a whole service of Compline (night prayer) to go out mid-week.

In the last couple of weeks we have made considerable use of Zoom: for Junior church; for our new young people’s group Ace, to continue our Lent course; and for post-service ‘coffee’. Thank you to all those who are involved. If anyone wishes to access these – do get in touch. There will be a second discussion group starting up very soon.

I am aware that much of what we do is on-line, which doesn’t suit everyone. So we have been working on alternatives. Thanks to the hard work of Chris Cunliffe, we now have a local phone line, which can be used to access a recording of the reading and sermon from the Sunday service each week. The number is 0113 4678478, please pass this on to anyone who might be interested.

If you are managing to remember what day it is in this strange time, you may be aware that tomorrow (Thurs 21st May) is Ascension Day. There will be a service online as there would have been in church (7.30pm on Facebook and also on our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCow9TkJpsjsLvXBUuN7BmgQ )

In recent years the days between Ascension and Pentecost have seen a global prayer initiative – Thy Kingdom Come - involving Anglican, Methodist and Roman Catholic churches. As our contribution, there will be a number of prayer stations set up in the churchyard from this coming weekend for a week. This is an opportunity to do something that is not screen based – but is also our offering to the community. Many people already use the churchyard as a place to reflect. Please go and spend a while in prayer, for our community and our world and also tell others about it.

Thank you once again for your support. Be assured that you are in my prayers, please get in touch if I can help in any way.

With love and prayers,
