We believe that marriage is a gift from God as two people make a lifelong commitment to one another in front of God, their friends and families. Couples have been making those promises in Adel church for hundreds of years, and our beautiful grade I listed building remains a wonderful place to celebrate your wedding.
If you are interested in marriage, marriage blessings, or renewing vows do come along to one of our Sunday services. You will be able to talk to the Rector, Alison, about your plans.
Can I get married at Adel?
There are some legal limits on who we are allowed to marry. To get married at Adel church one of you should satisfy at least one of these conditions:
• Live in the parish
• Regularly attend worship in the Church or have done so for at least 6 months in the past
• Have been baptised in the Church or been prepared for confirmation here
• At any time resided in the parish for at least 6 months
or
• A parent has resided in the parish for at least 6 months at any time (or still does)
• A parent regularly attends worship in the Church or has done so for at least 6 months in the past
• A parent or grandparent was themselves married in the Church
If one of you has been divorced, you may still be able to marry in church, but this is something you will need to discuss with the Rector, Alison.
'Prayers of love and faith' for same sex relationships.
In December 2023, a selection of prayers of thanksgiving, dedication and asking for God's blessing for same sex couples were authorised for use within regular public worship. As yet, stand alone services of blessing are not permitted. At Adel church we would be pleased to offer prayers within our worship, and will offer stand alone services if these do become available. Please contact the Rector for more information.
